Does sita really sings the blues?
Yesterday I saw the much appreciated movie in animation industry, Sita Sings the Blues. The movie written ,produced and directed by an American artist Nina Paley. The film is completely based on oldest Indian Hindu Epic Ramayana and its modern transition towards todays lifestyle.
Built through computer 2d graphics , with traditional indian puppet shows effects the film is a complete masterpiece. But I had a different feedbacks from the audiance when I attempted to show it to some of my well educated and religious believers collegues. Each had a different views regarding the movie. Some said it was good, some said what is shown of ram and sita is true in reality, some commented on the graphics and innovation while Some even said That it is a vulgar ramayan.
Ok let us assume for sometime that this is a vulgar ramayan.
The film did not expose any vulgarity on the side of Ram and Sita. It was a modern Ram and Sita on the other side that relates itself to the very authentic realistic characters, it is the western version of sita (the Jazz Singer,Annette Hanshaw). The movie I guess never made an attempt to expose the vulgarity of Sita, as the majority of the movie is based on Sita.
But even if we consider this as a vulgar we As a indian’s have lost a right to comment on this.Because it was our Own Government who was out to prove it judicially that Ram was an imagination and Ramayan is a mythological story. All set to destroy Ram sethu. And This movie being an american made clearly proves itself that Ram was a reality and Ram Sethu Does exists. Even the Valmiki teachings in the movie where he makes luv and kush learn to sing the songs to praise ram is
shown as how todays valmiki would have thought to luv kush. That’s what is to be learned from this movie.
Anyways it does Depend on the viewers point of view. But least better than the non belief people shows towards Lord Shri Ram and Goddess Sita.
Does this interest you to see this movie? well its available for free to watch and download on their official site. click here
